Central America

Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua

Nicaragua

Last destination for our Central America trip was Nicaragua and flying out from Costa Rica. Nicaragua is no question beautiful as well, lots of fantastic volcanoes (active or not any longer), surfer paradise and made for backpacking. Its still one of the cheaper options to travel in Central. I saw my first active volcano with lava, unbelievable and one of the most incredible things i ever got to see. Its like watching the ocean but hot and red=). Fresh juices everywhere and beach life pure.

Guatemala

After Mexico we crossed the border to Guatemala. It is a big different. Mexico is so well travel that the way to go around is comfortable and kind of luxurious. Especially the transportation is less comfortable. If you travel on a budget the cheapest way to go from city to city is to take the local buses (colourful old american school buses). The rule is it takes so many people on board util there is no more room even if four people sit on two seats with one person on you lap and 20 more in the gangway. its your choice pay more and you get more=) Guatemala was my favourite from the nature. its just beautiful. So may volcano (active or not) and unbelievable lakes and just pure beauty of nature. We did great hikes. One was a 2 day hike to the highest peak in Central America with an unforgatable sunrise. Apparently the food is just half that good like Mexico but i just enjoyed Guatemala...

Mexico

After a full month in Cuba we made our way to Mexico. We stayed a bit longer than 2 weeks and i can tell you already it was way too less time. Mexico is huge and so beautiful and easy to travel. Of course it can be dangerous but if you follow some guidelines (like don't travel with night buses or maybe avoid Mexico City) then you will be more than fine and actually don't want to leave again. During the too weeks we just had time to see the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche and Chiapas. This ones are the most traveled ones and least dangerous as well. We visit one Cenote (natural pool) after another, ate way too good and too much and enjoyed the fantastic beaches. And not too forget the Maja Culture with ruins and history in every town... beautiful so but a lot! Mexico is beautiful and i will be back soon...
